Interview with Adel Al Kalbany, Saudi appointed Imam of the Kaaba, denouncing Shias as pagans. This excellent BBC Arabic interview was posted on YouTube May 06, 2009. The stage was already being set to be able to kill Yemeni civilians as apostates.

The interview is very revealing as to the thinking of Saudi Wahabis. Since the interview date, many Saudi “Imams” have come to attack Shias during the  Friday prayers.

The most notable incident was when recently the preacher “Shiekh” Muhammad Al-’Arifi, the Saudi appointed “imam” at Riyadh’s central mosque. During a Friday sermon in the mosque he attacked top Shiite authority in Iraq, Grand Ayatollah Ali Al-Sistanithe, most revered Shiite cleric in Iraq as an “infidel and debauched.” He delivered a sermon about the Yemeni Houthi Shiite rebel group, which is fighting the Yemeni government and attacked by Saudi Saudi war planes.

Arifi criticized the Houthis for choosing Sistani as a mediator to help solve the political stand-off, dismissing the revered Shiite scholar as an “infidel and debauched.” As it stands, the Houthies never mentioned mediation through Sistani.

As one Saudi commentator put it:

Sheikh Dr. Mohamed al Arifi is dear to my heart and to the hearts of millions of Arabs, but the truth is dearer. By visiting the frontline where [Yemeni] troops are battling the Huthi rebels, al Arifi boosted their morale and urged them to fight on and this is an honorable Islamic and patriotic position. This is in addition to the appreciation of millions of Arabs for the “unconventional” superior preaching methods in addressing the youth and he urges them to promote virtue and keep away from vice.

Saudis have been defeated on the ground by the Houthis, so now Saudis are bombing villages and towns by F16s and helicopter gunships, killing women and children far away from the battlefield. What has happened in North Yemen by Saudi bombs, is worce than Gaza.

A galaxy of prominent scholars from all over the Muslim world spoke out against the insults by the Saudi preacher who sows division between Sunnis and Shiites, and plays into the hands of Islam’s enemies. Both Lebanese Shiite groups   Hezbollah and Amal criticized the Saudi cleric .

Other Saudi preachers have attacked as pagan the Shia religious leadership of Iran.

In the interview, Adel Al Kalbany also reveals that he was part of a Saudi delegation to Afghanistan soon after the fall to the mujahidin. Trying to bring different war lords together (unsuccessfully) under one umbrella, before the rise of the stable Talliban government. He also covers his meetings with Bin Laden.

The Shias in the Saudi Kinkdom represent 30% of the population. Shias from the world over come on the Pilgrimage to Mecca. Apologies and retractions are certainely in order. But then such divisiveness is the order of the day for the Saudis and their Western Allies. After all, the Saudi family fought the Moslem Caliphate, alongside the Anglo Saxons. As the British say “divide and rule”.

The Saudis (and the BBC) want the world to believe, Arabs and Moslems in particular, that The Islamic Republic of Iran is a greater threat to world peace than Israel.
